County Image File
RMP's entire plat library is available on CD-ROM in a Tagged Image File (TIF) format. These digital files are unrectified yet suitable for import into most desktop mapping applications for easy editing. Base map features include but are not limited to land ownership, parcel boundaries, acreage, roadways, waterways, section lines, municipal boundaries, and index to owners. Includes a license to make unlimited reproductions for one year from date of purchase.

Is there more information on my Image File CD-ROM than in the plat book?
No. The Image Files are scanned images of the plat book map pages.

Is the Index to Owners included on my CD-ROM?
Yes. The Index to Owners is included as an Adobe® PDF File.

Can I get a database file of the Index to Owners?
Yes. RMP does have various owner, subdivision, highway, road and small tract data available in an MS Access File format for $100.00 per county. These datasets may be helpful for some users in creating their own attribute tables.

Do you include complete Parcel ID Numbers (PINs)?
No. RMP does not include complete Parcel ID Numbers in our plat maps. However, Lake County, IL and McHenry County, IL do contain partial PINs.

What software do I need to use an Image File?
RMP Image Files are compatible with most desktop graphics programs. The most common of these programs include Paint®, Imaging®, Corel Draw®, Photoshop®, Quark® and FrontPage®.

Is an Image File the same as an unrectified raster image?
Yes. These are the same thing.

Is my Image File geo-referenced?
No. County Image files are not geo-referenced. However, we do have a geo-referenced format for purchase called an RMP SmartImage. Please contact our office for availability, pricing and format details.

What is the size of an Image File?
Image Files have been scanned at 300 dots per inch resulting in a file size of approximately 1MB to 5MB per map page.

Is my Image File in color?
RMP began producing full color digital files in 2000. All previous editions we produced in black and white.

Can I get my Image File in a different format?
Yes. For a nominal conversion fee of $10.00 per county, you can get your image in a .jpg format.

Are the Image Files edged matched by county?
No. Because of the cartography methods used years ago to hand draw the base maps primarily for book publishing purposes, edge matching county boundaries to one another was not possible. The source data used to compile the base maps were not necessarily from a consistent resource. In some counties, base map information was provided by local government. In other counties, regional and federal government sources were used. Individual counties offered us their best available base data at the time. Therefore, it was not possible to consistently match maps across county boundaries.

Why is there a license included with my Image File purchase?
RMP's entire plat library is fully protected by Federal Copyright Law. A license is written permission to make unlimited reproductions (scan, view, modify, print, copy, digitally retain on an Intranet and web display) of RMP's plat data for one year from date of purchase for personal and business applications.
