RMP SmartImages are rectified township map pages pieced together into a
single mosaic image creating seamless countywide coverage. The Public
Land Survey System (PLSS) is geo-referenced to USGS 1:24000 quadrangles
in State Plane NAD 83 projection. These digital files on CD-ROM are
designed to be used as a layer with Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) software or other programs that spatially reference data. Images
are produced in grayscale. Base map features include but are not
limited to land ownership, parcel boundaries, acreage, roadways,
waterways, section lines, municipal boundaries, and index to owners.
Includes a license to make unlimited reproductions for one year from
date of purchase.

Is there more information on my RMP SmartImage CD-ROM than in the plat book?
No. An RMP SmartImage CD-ROM contains the same information as the plat book.
Is the Index to Owners included on my CD-ROM?
Yes. The Index to Owners is included as an Adobe® PDF File.
Are there attribute tables associated with my RMP SmartImage?
No. RMP does not have attribute tables at this time.
Can I get a database file of the Index to Owners?
Yes. RMP does have various owner, subdivision, highway, road and small tract data available in an MS Access File format for $100.00 per county. These datasets may be helpful for some users in creating their own attribute tables.
Do you include complete Parcel ID Numbers (PINs)?
No. RMP does not include complete Parcel ID Numbers in our plat maps. However, Lake County, IL and McHenry County, IL do contain partial PINs.
What software do I need to use an RMP SmartImage?
RMP SmartImages are compatible with most desktop mapping systems such as ArcView®, ArcInfo®, or MapInfo®.
Is an RMP SmartImage the same as a rectified raster image?
Yes. These are the same thing.
Is my RMP SmartImage geo-referenced?
Yes. Our images have what we call "positional accuracy"; that is they have map features that are related to specific
control points to assure "real world" location.
What size is an RMP SmartImage?
RMP SmartImage sizes range from 38 MB to 302.5 MB.
Is my RMP SmartImage in color?
No. RMP SmartImages are produced in grayscale.
Can I get my RMP SmartImage in a different projection?
Yes. However, conversion fees do apply per county and may vary depending on the projection. Please contact our office
at 1-800-321-1627 for details.
Can I bring an RMP SmartImage in as a layer?
Yes. RMP SmartImages can be saved as transparent and layered on top of or underneath other geo-referenced data to
be viewed simultaneously. However, this application is unique to the user's software.
Are the RMP SmartImages edge matched by county?
RMP SmartImage data are edge matched within county boundaries to form seamless countywide coverage. Because of
the hand drawn cartography methods used years ago for base maps used primarily for book publishing purposes, edge
matching county boundaries to one another was not possible. The source data used to compile the base maps were not
necessarily from a consistent resource. In some counties, base map information was provided by local government. In
other counties, regional and federal government sources were used. Individual counties offered us their best available
base data at the time. Therefore, it was not possible to consistently match maps across county boundaries.
Why is there a license included with my RMP SmartImage purchase?
RMP's entire plat library is registered with the Library of Congress and therefore fully protected by Federal Copyright Law. A license is written permission to make unlimited reproductions (scan, view, modify, print, copy, digitally retain on an Intranet and web display) of RMP's plat data for one year from date of purchase for personal and business applications.
